About the Rice Purity Test

History & Origins

The Rice Purity Test originated at Rice University in Houston, Texas, during the 1960s as a bonding activity for new students during Orientation Week (O-Week). Created by students for students, it served as an icebreaker to help freshmen connect and share experiences in a fun, non-judgmental way.

How Scoring Works

The test consists of 100 questions about various life experiences. You start with a score of 100 (completely “pure”) and lose one point for each experience you’ve had. Higher scores indicate less life experience, while lower scores suggest more diverse experiences.

Score Meanings

98-100 Exceptionally Pure Very limited life experiences
94-97 Highly Pure Minimal exposure to worldly experiences
77-93 Moderately Pure Balanced mix of experiences
45-76 Moderately Experienced Average range for college students
9-44 Highly Experienced Extensive life experiences
0-8 Extremely Experienced Very extensive experiences
